1/33 - The Painter/Le Peintre

I started this series in 1999. At the time I was trying to get back to the fundamentals of painting and also to illustrate how the motifs are recycled like religious imagery, agit prop,academism . We are bombarded by so many images these days that it is really difficult to get peoples attention,so by painting on a discarded Louis Vuitton shopping bag , I thought I might grab someone's attention.I particulary emphasised the fetishistic aspect of cosumerism and the idea that nothing is truly original in painting.
